So heres a scenario for you. A person gives you a button and says "If you press this I will give you a million dollars. However pressing this button will kill a person you have never met. No one will know that you caused their death and you will never know who you killed. The button will be destroyed upon pressing it and no evidence of its existence will be left behind." Would you do it? I wouldn't I can't justify murder even if I don't know the person.
Basically there are no consequences. No one can prove anything. The only consequence is what you bring on yourself.

Probably not. Like, I could even do tons of charitable things with that money as an attempt to redeem myself, but that sorta thing would still weigh heavy forever. I'd have no idea who I ripped out of somebody else's life. A mom, brother, daughter -- that's too crummy.

I wouldn't press that button. That's for sure.
